I'm now finished with 3/4 of the left side of the border, about to switch to the right side of the border, then up to the top.
This is coming along really quickly. I'm curious about what will take the longest. I keep hearing horror stories about pear leaves. What was your favorite part about this piece and what was your least favorite?

Wonderful work so far!
To be honest, I had more problems with the border than with the leaves. I started with the top border and after that I did the pear leaves. I hadn't been stitching long and didn't know the leaves (or a TW for that matter) were supposed to be difficult. The rest of the border was a pain in the behind, because it has too many colours
and too little places to end or start the threads. And I couldn't loop start because of the blends. And I didn't want to carry the thread from pink
flower to pink flower, afraid it might show on the front of the piece. So the backside of the border looks one big matted mess of threads, started and ended
again and again behind the same few overstretched stitches that were available. It's been some time since I finished it, maybe I'd do it differently
now, but PT (my first TW ever) started a trend: I love how the borders look, but they are so not my favorite part of the piece. (Unless they are fully
stitched, then no carried threads can be seen from the front anyway and the problem doesn't exist. Unfortunately, most borders are rather
"airy".) Funnily enough, I haven't the faintest idea how I managed it in the top border.
My favourite part was the peacock and the tree branches. Easy stitching. And the grass wasn't bad either. And those pear leaves didn't leave a bad memory either somehow. It's that border.... And I did most of PT without marking the chart. Really. I can't
believe it myself either. All those pesky pear leaves in their proper place and not a mark on the chart.
Just out of curiosity, how does your PT border backside look? A mess? And how do you stitch it? In which order and how do you end and start the threads? TIA |

More than a year later and I've made progress, though I had to put it down for a long time to work on my host sister's rushnyk.
The border is complete and I've got nearly the entire top half of the tree done, including all the pear leaves. I did it without the backstitch chart. It was a little tricky but I figured them out. Question: What color are the french knots on the pears supposed to be? The same color as the bs for the tree bark?

My current progress:
And a closeup: And the back: And the section I'm currently working on: I have to take a break and work on some small projects for my aunt who is making a dollhouse before she dies.
