In case anyone's wondering, I do still know how to cross stitch (as opposed to the backstitched wooden ornaments I've been focusing on lately) and actually have a cross stitch ornament in the works right now! It's just not finished because it's not actually a Christmas design (it's a monkey) and I'm thinking through how to turn it Christmas-y so it can be a first Christmas ornament for my goddaughter's first baby (born on my birthday last month!) with his name and "1st Christmas" and year on the back side.
I've done something similar before when I added a Santa hat to a T-Rex and a wreath around the neck of a brontosaurus for my goddaughter's then-dinosaur fanatic brother (hell be 22 in a couple of months, so he's grown out of that obsession ) This time I'm contemplating going simpler and adding beads as Christmas lights to the ring of the design or maybe stringing the Christmas lights up his tail? I'm not totally sold on either idea yet though.
I've stitched this monkey before on a bib, so please take a look at the older project and if you come up with ideas on how to make it Christmas-y, I'd be glad to hear them!
