Okay, if anyone can help me they would so TOTALLY be my hero I'm trying to remember the name of a miniseries I saw on PBS back in the late 90's It was
set in about the 1930s or so... a British police inspector is sent to Africa (his drinking problem had gotten him in a bad odor with his superiors) and ends up
investigating (much to effectively for some) the murder of a socialite. It was wonderful, but I can't remember the name now or any of the actors (it
wasn't anyone I'd heard of) It's driving me MAD Please help if you can

I remember it, and I think it might be the Heat of the Sun
series, although I'm not sure. THE PBS part and the date (1998) are right.
