I use the nuts and bolts cabinets as well. Now if only I could figure a good way to store all the other threads that I seem to be aquiring. The problem is the wide variety of methods the threads are packaged and the fact that I only have a few of each brand or type. I seem to be getting a good variety of Weeks and GAST but I also have some Dinky Dyes and Crescent Colors and Eterna Silk and, and, and

I use two Jammers boxes (made to store Hot Wheels cars...found mine in the toy dept at Walmart) for my DMC bobbins. All the other fibers are stored in Floss Away bags on rings. I keep the rings in plastic shoe boxes, all the Caron in one, Rainbow Gallery in one, Weeks in one, GAST in one, and then the smaller collections are in the baggies by type...silks or cotton, and stored together in two more shoe boxes. They stack nicely and are clear so I can see what's what.

The one's I'm using are on bobbins the rest are in 2 sets od drawers I got from the DIY shop a few years back
Each drawer is just the right width for a skein and there's 5 sections to a drawer so there's several colours to a drawer but each section is labelled on the front so I know where to look |

All of my DMC is kept in ThreadBeds. No winding of bobbins! I have another binder that I keep all of my working threads in. When I finish a project, those threads go back into the master binders. You can keep 2 skeins of each color in each slot.

I have a hugely low-tech system - self seal bags in a carrier bag!!! I have one for each 'hundred' set of DMC, and one for metalics. I keep WIP threads together with the WIP - again I use self-seal bags and carrier bags alot, but I made a fabric roll to keep threads in for larger pieces - it's currently full of the many blues, greens and browns used for Mermaid.
I don't have many 'other threads'. I have a large bag full of Anchor (which I rarely use, so it's all together), and keep krenicks in a nice wooden box. It's a wonder I can find anything... I've not tried bobbins or anything, but have had a look at DMCs gold concept in shops - but I'm not convinced it will be better, and it would be really expensive to set up. I did love Vincent's home-made thread organiser (do yhou remember that?) but don't have either the space or the skill necessary.... Jo in Yorkshire, UK

I was fortunate enough to pick up Sudberry floss boxes at several of their garage sales, and these are stuffed full of Floss-Away bags full of DMC, Weeks and other stray brands. The Kreiniks went into a box designed for Sulky threads. And the truly miscellaneous stuff, like spools of perle cotton or leftovers threads from kits, all go into several plastic shoeboxes.
Barbara WIPs: Holy Spirit Descending (aka Holy Spirit Unending), Crystal Snowflake, Nostalgia (Twilley's) and the band for my stitching group's band sampler, plus the usual bag of UFOs waiting to become WIPs again |
