Pictures, pictures, pictures...we all love to see pictures! A few basic "rules" and some key steps and posting pictures can be pain-free.
Storing Photos
Your pictures need to live online. This means either a photo site or using webspace to store your pictures (for example, I have 30 Mgs of "space" with my internet account - that's where I store my webpages and photos).....or as Anna says "You may already be paying for perfectly good webspace, so why not use it to host pictures?"
Hosting
Many of the photo sites (ie:www.webshots.com or www.picturetrail.com ) do not allow "remote hosting." Essentially, they won't let you store a photo on their servers to display on someone else's website. This increases traffic and load on the photo site servers, decreasing their efficiency. Some members have successfully used Picturetrail's "Auction" option (similar to the photos you see on ebay or xstitch auctions), but it's been spotty.
Note: Be sure to use your "Community Page" on Webshots to capture the location. Click thru to the album or picture you wish to post a link to.
Links to Non-Remote-Hosting photo sites
If you use Webshots or Picturetrail (or any photo site that doesn't support remote hosting) you can easily include a link in your post for members to "click over" and look at your picture. Simply post the full path to either the album page or to the picture page and ezboard will convert it to a link:
http://community.webshots.com/album/27035173haOcixDYIf
becomes: community.webshots.com/album/27035173haOcixDYIf
(thanks to Mindy for this lovely album link
)
One note: This will not work for personal pics - you must use a picture on a server that allows remote hosting.
Posting Hosted Pics
Personal Pics
There are several places you can post your pictures in posts. First, your "Personal Pic." This is the easiest! No code involved! Click on "My Control Center" and "Edit Profile" In the center section, you'll see a place to enter "Personal Photo URL" You simply post the full path to your picture....here's mine:
http://users.cableaz.com/~casm1128/hostings/me.jpg
Note: Picture links should end in either *.jpg, *.gif or *.bmp (these are the most common file types for images)
In-Post Pics
To post pictures within the body of a post, you need the URL for the picture (just like above) and some EzCodes. Use the "img" tags to post your pic:
[_img_]http://users.cableaz.com/~casm1128/hostings/me.jpg[_/img_] (without the "_")
Signature Pics
To add pictures to your signature line, you need to use HTML like this:
<img src="my picture url"> - for my little scissor line, the code is:
<IMG SRC="http://users.cableaz.com/~casm1128/pagepics/line_cut.gif">
Note: Occasionally, you'll post a lovely pic that you can "preview" but others will post that they are unable to view the pic....this is due to your computer's Cache of files (essentially it remembers all your recent pictures for faster re-viewing).
