Are you talking about the shading on the small corner animals on the FS? I don't think stitching them 1 over 1 would help, just make them smaller, and if there are any 3/4 or 1/4 stitches it would be hard to convert anyway.
When I have something that is shaded (like that pegasus!) I try and stitch the color with the most total stitches first, and I do it in rows back and forth across the body. Then I use the color that is the most different in shading from the first, and fill that in row by row. By that time the rest of the colors are easier to place in the spaces left, and the backstitching is saved for last.

Thank-you sooo much. Yes I am speaking of those darn animals in the corners. Do all TW's have this kind of shading and stitching? I am experimenting with the Lion on one over one but I am going to follow your method because it makes alot of sense and I don't know why I didn't think of it. I want to make some progress on this thing as it's supposed to be a christmas present and I started it a year ago!
Thanks again. |

Yup TW is known for her confetti stitching.
I know a lot of folks have different schemes for trying to keep it all straight. One popular method, not mine have you, is to grid the chart. That is to take a Sulky metallic thread and go over 4 under 4 along the 10 stitch grid lines for the entire fabric. (If you look on the chart every 10 squares there is a darker line the gridding is along these lines) The reason for Sulky metallic is you can generally find an obnoxious color that will show on all fabric and it is impossible to pierce so you can pull it out after stitching. The over under 4 threads will give you additional markers for counting. I personally just count a lot. I also end threads often as I don't like to count too far away from current stitching. I'll park partially used needles in a piece of fabric with tape labeling the blend for quick use later. Best wishes to you. |

Gina in Vancouver? BC or Washington?
After awhile, there is a rhythm to the confetti and I'm annoying enough to not mind it and really like the end result. I pick the symbol that I can see the biggest number of stitches in (sometimes just pick one and start!). Some people grid as Jen says. I count and recount. Then I pick the colour symbol next to the first one so I can make my initial line/blob bigger and use the first one to help guide placement of stitches. Are you highlighting the stitches on the chart as you go? If not, it'll help keep track of where you are. Not me, but some people use double highlighters. They colour the path to follow in one highlighter, then go over it with another highlighter as they finish. It does make it easier to see and make sure you don't miss any random stitches. I find it takes too much time, but whatever works best for you! Good luck. Lisa in Burnaby |

Thanks for the feedback. I did grid this entire piece and I do the double highlighting thing. I am also going to blow up those animal sections so I can see the symbols better. I am even doing the design on 28ct evenweave, it's not even 32 and linen. This past year my eyes have deteriorated so that I need reading glasses now. Bummer.

Just adding a note for anybody who has trouble finding Sulky Metallics - they're the same as Gutermann metallics, in the UK at least.
I hunted for quite a while and eventually found a UK site that sold Sulky metallic thread. When it arrived the spools were labelled "Sulky Gutermann" and the thread looks identical to the Gutermann thread my local shop sells. Nicola |

Well it sounds like you already know a lot of the tricks for confetti. I'm sorry you're still having problems. Enlarging the chart can be useful.
And if your eyes are still giving you grief you can always consider going on up to 25ct in the future. |

yes - I second that... confetti stitching and blended colors are "trademarks" of TW - not really, but yes - that is what makes these designs so
complex, lovely, and yes aggravating... sigh - but well worth the time to stitch them.
I too, choose the most predominant color and do it in rows, then the next, etc... and double highlight as well... less of a headache if you ask me. Good Luck.
