These Hints & Tips are from various stitchers over the years.
Silks - Washing & Cutting
Being that I stitched mine in silks I was at a decision if I should wash or leave as is. But I really wanted to get those threads in the cutwork areas to pull back and not be so noticeable. Now, it was mentioned to me that I could have done all of the cutwork in the center and then stitch everything else afterwards! Duh! Why didn't I think of that! Now, if you're not going to use silks, then you don't have to worry about this.
How Many Skeins of Silk?
I only bought one skein of silk for each color and of course, 1 for the perle cottons. I had more than plenty of silk left over for each color. So you don't have to worry about buying more than one skein of any color. Plus you'll have plenty left over for using on something else.
Backstitching Leaves in Area C
Depending on the size ct you use on your material will determine if you use 1 or 2 strands of green silk. For me, 2 strands made it to bulky for me. So, I switched it to 1 strand of silk and it looks nice. Just another suggestion.
Replacing the Queen Stitches
Now, depending on where you're from you might refer to these as "those darn Queen Stitches" or "those d*** Queeen Stitches" or "those stupid Queen Stitches". LOL No matter which way you say it means that they are not the most popular stitch for you to do! lol I know because I'm there. I "Aked Teresa" what I could replace them with, and not only did I get a suggestion from Teresa but from a couple of TWers as well.
If you're completely set against doing them you can either try a Plaid Stitch rotated a 1/4 turn - suggested by Teresa.
Or you can try a Rhodes stitch.
Another suggestion was trying to do the Queens Stitch with only 1 strand of floss instead of 2 as it called for.
