Greek mythology is FULL of stories and possibilities I think TW would be marvelous at. Hades and Persephone...imagine the pomegranates in the border! Odysseus' sailing home after the Trojan war. Apollo chases Daphne as she turns into a tree. Dionysus wooing Ariadne as Theseus leaves her. Eros and Psyche Perseus and Andromeda Zeus and just about everyone...lol. I imagine a sampler along the lines of ES would be fairly simple (easy for me to say, I know) it could have pillars, statues, lavendar and laurel, Zeus and Hera as central figures...

Posts: 1538 11/16/06 19:59:40	What about a sampler of just the twelve main gods of Olympus, with their various symbols littered around, posing for a sort of a family portrait? A bit like the Castle Sampler, only with clouds.

Posts: 56 08/04/07 18:49:05	It could be done sampler style, like Cam Sam or the Egyptian Sampler. That would make such a cool set. Are there others I am forgetting? Samplers with the two faces style? Zeus and Hera would be perfect as the main faces. Across the top it could be designed like an ancient Greek temple, with a frieze of relief statues of the other gods. There could also be stellar symbols or planets. If there is an alphabet, it should be Greek, like I said before. If there is a quote I suggest one from ancient epic poetry. There are plenty that we use in everyday life now that people don't realize came from Greece. One of my favorites is "A thing of beauty is a joy forever." (from the Bacchae) Since TW is so busy (not complaining really, we are all busy) I may have to cheat and design this for myself (by piecing bits of her stuff together and adding some of my own.) (Strictly for myself. I know that would be about as un-distributable (is so a word!) as anything gets.)

(like the single scene of Rapunzel or the Lady of Shallot) Love the idea of a sampler like ES with various symbols and gods (Hera's other form was a swan, Zeus as a thunderbolt, Greek letters, columns, wreaths of laurel). Some other ideas: Single scene of Poseidon, lord of the sea. Love all the ocean imagery with this one! Single scene of Prometheus, gave fire to mortals. I think you already said Persephone/Hades/Demeter. That would be a marvelous use of seasons. = ) Single scene of Pan in the wilds playing his pipes. Single scene of Chiron, the centaur, master of many arts and sciences. A scene of the Harpies (The poet, Hesiod refers to them as "Harpies of the lovely hair, winged women soaring aloft like birds"; they are the sisters of the rainbow goddess, Iris, and not described as the filthy monsters that we have come to imagine.) An Oracle being consulted - ie the Oracle of Delphi I would also love to see TW's takes on Artemis/Diana, who was a warrior/huntress (lots of use of bows & spears and moon imagery) and of Athena, goddess of wisdom, intellect & invention. Another thought is a scene from a classic play - how about: Odysseus' return home to find a bunch of suitors vying for his wife Penelope Paris fetching the golden apple and presenting it to Aphrodite Oedipus answering the riddle of the Sphinx Orpheus playing his lyre walking up the staircase out of Hades towards the surface, with his wife Eurydice at the bottom.
